Great Rivers, Great Challenges Fall 2008

Times and Seasons by Ann Doupont

There is a time and a season for everything under the sun.

As we read through Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, we can evaluate where we are as individuals as well as where we are in these end times. Occasionally while reading this passage, I have underlined various words in my Bible and put the date alongside of it for future reference. In verse 11, we see that God makes everything beautiful in its time.

Where I live now, in Boise, Idaho, there are 4 seasons and the season called autumn or fall has just begun. That means that change is in the air. Along with the change in weather are also other changes. For example, last week I could wear shorts but this week, I need longer pants and even a jacket.

I have laughingly told some people that where I came from, the San Francisco Bay Area; there are 4 seasons too, but that it takes 2 years for them. J Things are definitely different between California and Idaho and itʼs not just the weather.

When we know and understand the time and the season weʼre living in, weʼre then better able to handle lifeʼs pressures within that time frame. As individuals, we go from infancy to childhood and then into adulthood, with there also being other seasons or phases of our lives. We go from our working years into our retirement years.

Sometimes, things can get pretty rough, yet God can and will help us through them if we ask Him for that help. (See Psalm 46:1.) What I often pray is for the Father to prepare me for what's ahead and to show, or reveal, to me what I need to know about it. How much easier things are when we enter them fully prepared!

Each day has challenges of its own. We're to therefore take one day at a time (Matthew 6:34). Jesus arose early to seek the Father in prayer. How much better our lives can be when we also do this; that is, when we find out what is His will and plans for our lives and them follow what He shows us to do.

You may be in one of the biggest challenges of your life right now. Your future does not have to be based on your past. Our Father has the answer you need. The Holy Spirit who lives inside of you will reveal it to you, if invited to do so.

There is a time and a season for separation from all that distracts you from the Lord. There is a time of visitation foe each of God's children. There is a time of entering God's rest (Hebrews 3:7-4:11).

There's a time for everything God has called you to do. The question is: What time is it?
