The State of the World - Editorial version

Fall is one of my two favorite seasons: the colors are vibrant, the air is crisp and clean, (well, here in the Pacific Northwest it is), and there is a literal feel of change in the atmosphere. But fall is a time of preparation for winter, and even the animals are aware of it. The world as we know it is headed towards a season of darkness- or winter--as fast as it can gallop. As people who are aware of the times and seasons, we must prepare as best we can, trusting in God's grace to make up the difference.

Perhaps the most important preparation is our own level of faith. We can't place our confidence in governments or banks or people- we absolutely must have our hearts and minds focused on the Lord. Now while that sounds easy, it most certainly is not. Whatever country you live in, you face different obstacles and trials. Whether it is illness, finances, relationships, danger from animals or terrorists or tribal conflicts, all must face situations which can threaten our very lives. In some places to become a Christian means a death sentence if caught. In others, social upheaval threatens the lives of people who go to a public church. And this is the tip of the iceberg. Even America is rapidly growing cold towards its Biblical roots, and sliding swiftly away from the God Who has granted them favor for over two hundred years. The season is changing.

We have heard the warnings about global climate change. We hear the warnings about terrorist attacks. But I want to tell you that the most dangerous season is the one in which we have no faithfulness to the God of the Bible. Without the Holy Spirit in our lives and Jesus guiding our nation, things will get dark quickly. Please have your faith settled. Please strengthen yourselves in the power of His Blood and His Presence in your homes and daily lives. Trust in Him ...your lives depend on it!
